TANKS!!!

Friday, April 30th, 2004

All of my hard work advocating the use of tanks in elementry eduction has payed off. Tree just show me her thematic unit that she created as part of her el. ed. major and it included a page with tanks! If you happen to be a el. ed. teacher and you are reading this, I highly suggest you use take in your lessons (because tanks are cool).

Today was a very long day filled with work (at the library and for the Echo). I need to go to bed.

Grandparent’s Weekend

Thursday, April 29th, 2004

It’s Grandparent’s Weekend here at Taylor and my mom and aunt are bringing my step-grandma. That means less DC food this weekend :) . It should be fun. I’m going to take my step-grandma, Vesta, to Algorithms tomorrow. I’m sure she will enjoy hearing about text and string processing algorithms.

sniff sniff

Wednesday, April 28th, 2004

Yay! I finaly got the packet sniffer Melissa and I are writing for Data Comm working. The main source of my problems: C++. I’m realizing more and more that I don’t like programing in C/C++. I always seem to be fighting variable types and following stray pointers to the infinite abyss of NULL. If C++ was a kind of car, as Dr. Brandle illuistarted, it would be a bare frame, with wheels and an engine. There wouldn’t be any fancy things like doors or seats. I’d rather have a more complete car such as PHP. PHP is a big lush car, but dosn’t go very fast. I’m also finding that I like Java better. Even though it’s object crazy, it is more structured and seems to make more sense (and has better, centralized documentation). Well, enought rambling about programming languages…

A New First

Monday, April 26th, 2004

I just had a new first tonight. I had a writing assigment that I went significantly over the minium lenght requirement. For system seminar we had to write an one page paper an emerging technology and I wrote over 3 pages. The topic was VoIP. If people are interested I will post it here (this will only add to Ashleys observation that I am a dork :) )…

Why I shouldn’t blog

Monday, April 26th, 2004

I’ve been realizing (with the help of Joanna) that maybe bloging isn’t the best idea that I’ve had. Here are a few reasons:

1. I don’t like to write.
2. I can’t spell very well.
3. I’m not good at grammar.
4. I only do it because I think this program (WordPress) is neat (this is good, just not a valid reason why I should blog)

Despite all of these very good reasons, I will probably continue to (attempt) write in my blog. Feel free to point out spelling, grammer and other general English mistakes I make.

Quest for Quiet

Friday, April 23rd, 2004

I have just finished replacing most of the fans in my computer. Before, when I started my computer it sounded much like an airplane taking off. Now, it is much quiter :) . Although it is quiter, I had to sacrofice some airflow. Hopefully, there will be enough air flow to keep my system running cool and smooth. I also replaced my dead hard drive fan. Hard drive fans have become important with the advent of high RPM drive. A HDD fan really help in keeping the drive cool.

Links to the fans I use:
Dynatron Aluminum Hard Disk Driver Cooler
ENERMAX Thermal Control
Vantec “Stealth” 92mm Smart Case fan

Another Pick-A-Date

Tuesday, April 20th, 2004

Last night at my floor meeting I found out that we have a bowling Pick-A-Date coming up. I like going on PADs but I don’t like having to find someone to go with. Let the searching begin…

CSS Fixed

Sunday, April 18th, 2004

I fixed the CSS for the site so the middle section of the site dosn’t flicker when you mouse over a hyperlink on the side menu. This only happened with Mozilla and Mozilla based browsers.
