Return to Civilization

Monday, June 28th, 2004

Darrel and I had a good time on our camp trip up north. Here is an account of the trek:

Friday evening we spent packing and getting ready.

Saturday morning we work up early (around 7:00ish (well, for Darrel this is sleeping in, but for me it was early :) )). We made a quick stop at Tim Horton?s, (one of the greatest ‘fast food’ places on Earth). A few more hours and we had pass Cadillac, MI and entered into ‘the middle of no where’. After driving thru the middle of nowhere, we reached our campsite, which was in the middle of the middle of nowhere. We setup camp:

Camp

Little did we know, an army of mosquitos had evaded the camp before we arrived. There were lots, and lots, and it was only 1:00 PM. We managed to defend ourselves with the mosquito dreaded, Deep Woods Off.

After lunch, we hit the trails. The dirt bikes and quads were giving us funny looks. Apparently, not many Jeeps head down the trails.

We road about 30 miles on the trail and stopped for dinner. On the way back we stopped and got some firewood. When we got back to the campsite one of the shock mounts on the Jeep was broken. Needles to say, that was the end of the trail riding.

The rest of the evening was spent around the campfire.

Sunday morning we packed up camp and headed back home.

Even though the trip was cut short by Jeep problems, we had a good time. We are going to try to go up north one more time before the end of summer.

This weekend Darrel and I are going camping. We are taking the Jeep and going ride the trials. We are headed off to Lake county, near Irons, MI. Hope we have fun!

Mad Mowing Monday with Michael Moore

Monday, June 21st, 2004

Like the alliteration? See I know some of that English stuff. :)

Yep I mowed the lawn again. It wasn’t as fun because it sprinkled part of the time and there were lots of bugs.

Well, Michael More is in the news again with his new documentary about 9/11 and George W. Bush. I haven’t seen the move (since it’s not out yet) but from what I’ve seen about it I’m not sure if I want to see it. In some ways I’d like to see what he has to say. But would he have valid points or is the movie just a personal vendetta against ol’ W?

I saw Bowling for Columbine and thought it was interesting although I didn’t agree with many of his views. After seeing it I had the feeling that Moore’s motives for the movie weren’t pure. I couldn’t pin point any specifics thought.

USA Today has a interesting artical about Moore. The article referenced this site. The site looks interesting but is it just more rhetoric?

It seems hard to sift through all of the news media, rhetoric and propaganda to figure out what is going on.

Apple is Evil?

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

Yep, that’s right, our favorite fruity computer company is evil and filling our brain with Evolutionism Propaganda according to this site. I always thought the constantly assimilating, money-hungry, buggy and insecure (possibly on purpose) software writer know as Micro.. err… was the evil software monop… err… company. But since they charge ridiculous prices for their software and hate the evil communist open source movement they are good.

I ran across this site a few days ago and had very mixed thoughts about it. On one hand it is very funny to think that someone believes that because a kernel of an operating system is named ‘Darwin’ and is based off of BSD, which has a cute devil as its logo, Apple is trying to subliminally convert everyone to Evolutionists. Oh, and I thought the part about Daemons was funny too. I hope they know that the same thing exists in windows (it’s ok though, because they are called services). The people that created this site have a very skewed sense of technology.

The whole techno speak part is true though… us geeks speak a completely different language. But I don’t think the entire Geekdom is a cult.

Another note on the Apple speak creating a kind of cult: the Mac OS has been around longer then Windows (remember famous ’1984′ commercial), so technically, ‘Recycle Bin’ is a copy of the ‘Trash Can’. I think if they called it ‘Rubbish Holder’ no one would understand what its function.

Their claims are obviously wrong because they contradict the name of Apple?s current OS: OS X. Here, like inX-Mas, X represents the Greek letter chi for first letter Christ’s name. Right?

I also thought their notation of Open Source as being communistic was interesting. In a sense, Open Source is communistic, a community of programmers work together for the love of technology to create a program for free. The main difference between Open Source and the Soviet Union is the penguins… yep, penguins only live in the South Pole. Well, ok maybe it is the whole Marxism thing.

Well, I think that’s enough for now…

Stanley’s New Home… Florida?!?

Monday, June 7th, 2004

Well, the Tampa Bay Lighting just won the Stanley Cup. Too bad the Wings were knocked out early. Is it just me or is there something odd about a Florida team winning the Hockey championship? They don’t even have natural ice! Oh, well…

Slick and Zippy strikes again!

Yes, yes, I mowed the lawn again. It’s pretty fun with our new mower. For your entertainment I took a picture of ‘Slick and Zippy’. Here it is:

Chruch update…

Sunday, June 6th, 2004

I’ve told a few of you about the problems at my home church in Michigan. I have new development that was announced today at the end of the service.

Here is quick recap:
Back in December, my pastor had a guest speaker, who was a former member of the church, come and speak about how she is a lesbian, and that her lifestyle is fine and compatible with Christianity. This sparked a huge controversy in our church. He has said things before that would indicate his views, but not blatantly.

He has been at my church about 4 or 5 years. Attendance has really gone down, Sunday school disappeared, they started not paying bills, and many other not-so-good things.

People in the church tried to get help from the Distract, but they won’t do anything because the ‘proper channels’ were the ones requesting the help. The ‘proper channels’ thought everything was fine…

Well, to get back to the announcement: he is retiring, effective August 1st. This came as a big surprise, up until now it looked as if he was staying.

Hopefully a new pastor will help heal the wounds of the church.
