New Site, New Host

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I have a new domain! Actaully two:

The first one, I plan on using for my photos and such. The second one, I bought because it’s very cheap. It’s $2.00 a year for .info domains.

Along with my new domain, I have a new web host. My current host is no longer adequate. So I searched high and low for the best deal on a VPS (Virtual Private Server) account. First I settled on Westhost. I signed up with them and got my account created. It turns out that they don’t provide a full VPS. It lacks some important VPS features, such as root access to the server. So, I canceled the account and got all of my money back. They seem like a good host, but they weren’t quite what I wanted. I landed on PowerVPS. So far I’ve been impressed with them. The VPS is running excellently.

Now I’m in the midst of configuring the new server. My first big accomplishment was getting BIND, the DNS server up and running. Apache is mostly configured too. Currently, I’m working on email. I’m using this webpage as a guide on setting up my email server. It’s a lot of work, but I’m enjoying it!

I have a new resolutions, and that is to leave more comments on people’s (friend/families) blogs. One reason I tened not to, is I use Bloglines to read blogs — so it’s not as easy to post a comment. I will make more of an effert to comment more.

Muncie Texas Road House: Long Lines, no food

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

On Saturday, Alisse and I decided to go to the Texas Road House for dinner before her floor’s Quick Pick. There’s usually a good wait so we called ahead at 4:50. We got there at 5:30 and there was a were so many people there that I had to call Alisse on the cell phone to find out where she was after I told the hostess that we were there. Needless to say, they weren’t ready for us. We ended up leaving at 6:00 (without any delicious road house rolls :( ) because we were running out of time. We went to Fazoli’s instead. We found out later that the Quick Pick, which is a mini Pick A Date, didn’t start until later then we had planed.

For the Quick Pick we went to see Yours, Mine and Ours and Dairy Queen. It was enjoyable but formulaic, predictable and all together cheesy. But I had a good time hanging out with Alisse’s floor wing.

New Domain Name

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Pretty soon, I will be switching web hosts. My current host has stopped responding to support email and doesn’t have a working U.S. phone number any more.

The switch will be gradual. I’m wanting to setup the new host with a new domain name so I can activate the new account before switching this domain to the new server.

But I’m not sure what to have my new domain be. I think I want something photography in it. Do you [out in Internet land] have any ideas?

Not S.A.D

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

This was the second Valentine’s day that wasn’t a SAD (Singles Awareness Day). Alisse and I went to Maggiano’s in Indy on Saturday for our Valentines dinner. Tonight, we went out to La Charriada’s in Marion and stopped at the Tree of Life book store/cafe on the way back to Taylor. At Taylor we stopped by the Union to hear the Sounds. They were good, as usual.

A funny thing happend last Valentines day. We went to the Tree of Life after a movie. As I was backing out of the parking space I bumped the car in the spot behind me (I didn’t see it). But there was no damage — that’s what bumpers are for! I was very careful backing out this year.

Moderated Comments

It seems many comments on my blog have been caught in the blog software anit-spam trap. I’ve sifted through about 400 of the 550 comments to let the legit comments thru. Sorry if you comments didn’t show up once they were submitted. I’ll have to find a better way to keep spam out and legit comments in.

Welcome Home Civic

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

I got my car back today! I’m glad. They did pull out the fuses for the car alarm/keyless entry. I’m not sure were they go — so no keyless entry until I put them back. Oh well.
