New Site, New Host
Tuesday, February 28th, 2006I have a new domain! Actaully two:
The first one, I plan on using for my photos and such. The second one, I bought because it’s very cheap. It’s $2.00 a year for .info domains.
Along with my new domain, I have a new web host. My current host is no longer adequate. So I searched high and low for the best deal on a VPS (Virtual Private Server) account. First I settled on Westhost. I signed up with them and got my account created. It turns out that they don’t provide a full VPS. It lacks some important VPS features, such as root access to the server. So, I canceled the account and got all of my money back. They seem like a good host, but they weren’t quite what I wanted. I landed on PowerVPS. So far I’ve been impressed with them. The VPS is running excellently.
Now I’m in the midst of configuring the new server. My first big accomplishment was getting BIND, the DNS server up and running. Apache is mostly configured too. Currently, I’m working on email. I’m using this webpage as a guide on setting up my email server. It’s a lot of work, but I’m enjoying it!
