Done with Firefly

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I watched the last episode of Firefly tonight.  It was a good episode but sad that it’s the last one.  I wish they would have continued the show, it’s now one of my favorite sci-fi series.  The idea of a sci-fi - western cross sounds bad, and wrong on paper, but I think it made the show really unique and interesting. The show also had really good character development (just like Joanna said) :).   I wonder why they did cancel it.

I’ll have to watch the movie Serenity again.  I remember most of it, but I think it will be much better after just watching the series.  There are, from what I can tell, some big gaps between the movie and the show.  Like the fact that Mr. Universe never appears in the show but is their best friend in the movie.  I’m also wondering how the Shepard came to live on a planet and not the ship.

Joanna, you can have Firefly back any time.

Sneak Peak

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Here is a sneak peak at my new website design: new.

Here is the current theme: Ocadia

The new theme is not quite done yet.  I still have a lot of CSS to tweak.  What do you think so far?

Beautiful Day

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Today was the first really nice day of the year here in Mid-Central Indiana. It hit 70! After work I went for a run along the White River. The river runs through Muncie, right next to work. There is a nice trail along the river in town. It was really nice to get outside and do something physical. I can get pretty antsy being pent up in a Cube for 9 hours.

There were lots of other people on the trail. I guess I wasn’t the only one with the idea to do something outside today. It was nice to see the ducks and the geese (canadian) but not so nice to see the trash can in the water. Oh wait, it is Muncie :/ . Anyway, I found this website (http://www.tobyk.com/maps) today that lets you put points onto google maps and measure the distance. Here is a link to the path I took today.

My IPs are boring

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

I discovered this cool website awhile ago.  It gives your IP address a score on how interesting it is.  Here are some results from wissman.org

How interesting is your IP address?

New Show: Firefly

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

I watched Serenity a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. Well, this weekend Joanna loaned me her copy of the Firefly TV show. (Serenity is the Firefly movie.) I’ve watched three episodes and I really like it. Joanna was right, the show does have really good character development. I also like the ‘universe’ they are in. It seems more realistic then other sci-fi movies and TV shows. There actaully are no aliens and they only travel within one galexy (not the one Earth is in). The best way I can think of describing the show is that it’s like a Western in space. It has that somewhat gritty feel of a Western. But they use a spaceship to rob trains instead of horses.

Server Progress

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Accomplishments for the day:

  • Frontpage server extensions are working, so Darrel can work on his site.
  • Dovecot IMAP. I have a workaround for the failing to authentic after a period of time problem. That is to set cron to restart the server every hour. It’s not very eloquent, but it works.

Next things:

  • Get spam filter working
  • Design a new website / blog.

Any design suggestions for my new site? I want it to be somewhat like my old site, but updated.

Flip the Switch

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

I flipped ‘the switch’ this morning to have wissman.org point to the new server. So far so good. I still have some issues to work out. Mainly:

  • Dovecot stops authenticating after a period of time.
  • I’m having trouble installing the front page server extensions for Darrel.

Time to start designing a new website!
