New Computer…

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

for my mom.  She’s finally getting a new computer!  I built her old one several years ago and it’s getting pretty tired. It’s a PIII 667.  I built her new computer too.  It has a cool case and a looks pretty slick. It was a litte more expensive then the Dell I picked out for her, but this one should be much better.  It has a 17″ flat-panel LCD that is black and matchs the case.

The other highlights: it has a 64bit processor (AMD Sempron 64) and a SATA hard drive.  Both things I’ve not working with before.

Everything went together without any big problems.  Now I just have to get it home!

New Apartment

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Well, I’m in my last month on Woods Edge Lane.  Two weekends ago, I put a deposit down on a new apartment.  I’m getting a new apartment because my current roomate is getting married.  For some reason, I can’t live with him any more :)  Anyway, my new apartment is two bedrooms, 1 bath and on the third floor.  It has cathedral ceilings in the living/dinning/kitchen room. One room will be my bed room and the other is going to be my office.   I still need some furniture — a couch, coffee table, tv stand and other living room stuff. I also want to get a little set of outdoor furniture for my balcony.  I’ll probably end up getting some cheep stuff from Meijer.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to it.

Easter Break

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

For Easter break, I took off Friday and Monday.  It was my first time off work since Christmas!  For the break, I went to Alisse’s house in Chicago-land. It was nice to have a couple days off.  Friday, Alisse and I went on a shopping frenzy: First stop Ikea.  I got somethings for my new apartment (more to come on that). Then we went to Gap and Old Navy for some new spring clothes.  Since neither of us are big shoppers, we were about sick of it and headed back.

Saturday, we went visited some of Alisse’s friends. I also met one of the creaters of Uno.

Sunday, was Easter (of course).  We went to church.  It was a nice service.  After that, some of Alisse’s family came over to her house for dinner.  We had a really good dinner.  It was a little sad not being home with my family on Easter.

Over all, it was a nice break.

Hyperdrive Go!

Monday, April 10th, 2006

This past Friday, Alisse and I went to the Ball State Student Center to see the band Hyperdrive Go! Alisse know’s the band members from back home. They were pretty good. Sci-Fi is their theme and they sport an electric guitar, organ and drums. This combination makes for a unique sound. Here’s a photo from the concert:

Hyperdrive Go!

Oh yeah. Harry and the Potters played after Hyperdrive go. I didn’t really like them much. I’d probably like them better if I were a teenage hard-core punk wizard. But I am not. I also have to say something about the Tally — the area of the Student Center where the concert was. It seemed a bit dated — think early 90’s, Saved By the Bell style.

Don’t Use IE

Monday, April 10th, 2006

Just don’t do it. Besides being very holey (that is full of holes, not set apart), my site refuses to work correctly in IE. Arg, is it even worth trying to fix?

Here are some asorted articles I read in the past few days.

Why does Fox cancel the show I like?

Storm

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

So I turned on the TV (well, really just ran the TV turner card application on my computer) to watch Law and Order tonight.  A few minutes into the show, the TV station weather people interrupted giving weather updates.  There was a severe storm moving thru Indiana at 45-50 mph and has the potential to produce tornados.  Great.  Well, I only saw about 10 minutes of the show because they kept cutting in.  Eventually, they said they were going to just stay with the weather.

One of the big cells that moved though went right over downtown Indy.  They kept saying how severe and bad this storm is.  I was starting to get worried because it was heading right towards Muncie.  This big block of red on the screen heading towards me.  “Great”, I am thinking, “my apartment is going to be sucked up in a tornado.”  Then they went to their street level eyewitness reporter.  It really did not look so bad. It was windy and rainy and some lightning, but altogether not sucked up in a F5 twister.  Now I am starting to think, this will not be so bad.  Then, when things cannot get any worse, they showed some of the damage in Indy: a blown over trashcan. Wow, they most are slightly over dramatizing this.  I will be perfectly fine.  Sure enough, the storm blew thru with just a few rumbles.

I guess there actually was at least one tornado in Indiana this evening, so the storm was somewhat worrisome but not altogether mass-chaos scary (which might be your thought after watching 2 hours of storm coverage on the local TV station).

Well, I am off to bed.
