Donating Blood, take 2

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

Since I’m in-between projects at work, with not a ton of things to do, I decided to try to donate blood again.  Last time, about a year ago, I nearly passed out while giving blood.  I attributed it to not eating breakfast before donating.  Yesterday, I at a good breakfast: English muffin, eggs, bacon, and orange juice.

The donating part went pretty well.  I got all the way through giving my gallon (or how much ever it is) of blood.  I walked over to the snack table to rest up for a few minutes.  I ate the cookie they had and started to go for the oj.  That’s when I started to not feel so well.  I started to pass out.  The walked me over to an open spot on the floor and laid me down and propped my feet up.  I immediately felt better.  After a few minutes I got up and waited around some more drinking gator aid.

The worst part was they didn’t bring the free t-shirts!  I won’t be able to get it until Tuesday.  I also didn’t win any of the cool prizes.  But I was able to help some one that will need some blood.  That makes the whole thing worth it.

I suppose it will be awhile before I donate donate again — maybe I’ll try in another year.

5K 5M faster

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

This morning was the my second time running in the Taylor Homecoming 5K run. This year, I had a time for just of 28 minutes, which is about 5 minutes faster then last year. By the end my lungs felt like they were about to give out — but they didn’t. I also attained my goal from last year, which was to run it in under 30 minutes. Despite the 40 degree whether, and the waking up early on Saturday, it was a fun time. Later today, I’m going to head back for the football game and dinner with Alisse’s parents.

Couscous

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

One of my favorite side dishes to make is couscous. It’s a middle-eastern, ah, pasta, I guess. Here are the reasons I like it so much:

  • It is very easy to make (just add (boiling) water)
  • It goes with any main dish and can be flavored to your desire
  • It is good for you (atleast it’s not bad for you :) )
  • It is different
  • It tastes good!

I find it in the grocery store in the same section as rice.

Go Tigers

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

If you haven’t been following baseball this year, the Tigers are doing well this year. Just last year, I was scoffed at for wanting the Tigers to win the World Series. This year, it’s a good possibility.

Here is a nice article Joanna sent me about the Tigers. Thanks Joanna!
It was sad to hear about the Yankee’s pitcher.

Trip to Chicago

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

This weekend Alisse and I headed to her house in Chicago. She needed to go for a dress fitting. The dress is for her cousin’s wedding — Alisse is a bride’s maid. I decided to go along with Alisse and her mom to the bridal store for the fitting. After walking in, I was instantly overwhelmed by the estrogen in the building and had to leave. They said that it would take about 10 minutes. I had a nice 45 - 60 minute nap in the car :).
