Basketball at the United Center

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

This past weekend, Alisse and I traveled up to Chicago. On Friday, Chris’s (Alisse’s brother) basket ball team had a game at the United Center (the place where the Bulls play) in Chicago. The game was close but they ended up loosing. After a long break for dinner, we came back to the United Center to watch the Bulls game. At Chris’s game we had very good seats in the 3rd or 4th row but at the Bulls game, there were about 3 or 4 rows above us.

Here are few pictures from the game:

I wish I could say that the rest of the weekend was good but I can’t. Alisse and I both got the Stomach Flu and spent Saturday in bed.

I found this link on Digg and thought I would share. It’s quite geeky… but even Alisse liked it.

Good Bye Shep

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Shep, my* dog had to be put down today. Old age finally caught up to him. The past couple weeks he was having trouble walking and wasn’t able to get around. He wasn’t doing too well for the past couple of months. But he lived a long life for a dog — he was about 15 years old.

I was in 4th grade when we got him. I still remember going to pick him up around Easter time and playing with him when he was still a puppy. It’s strange to think about how long Shep has been around, just about 60% of my life.

* We all know he’s really my Dad’s dog.

Mango-licious Dinner

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Yesterday, Alisse and I made a really good dinner. We baked tilapia, and made a mango-salsa. The fish and salsa were served on a bed of couscous and we had a side salad of spinach with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. The salsa was really good on it’s own. We ate a lot of it with chips :) . The recipe for the fish and salsa is on allrecipes.com here: Mango-licious Tilapia.

We took photos but my flash’s battery had died and all the photos color is kinda off. Next time we make it, we’ll have to take some photos with a flash.

Well, I decided to post a photo any way. Here it is ‘as-is’:

Shamrock Shuffle

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

After college I started running. I wanted to do something active because I was sitting all day and evening. My first goal was to run in Taylor’s Homecoming 5K. I completed the 5K and ran in a couple more. So, I started thinking about what to do next. “How about an 8K?” I thought. After searching around a little. I found there is an 8K in Chicago at the end of March called the Shamrock Shuffle. So, I signed up.

The longest I’ve ever run is 5K, just over 3 miles. 8K is about 5 miles, so I have some training to do. I think the hardest thing will be pacing myself.

Chris, my future-brother-in-law (that’s kinda weird to think about) might also run but for different reasons. This summer he ran in the Chicago Distance Classic (1/2 marathon) and did really well. Since he did so well, he was offered a place toward the start of the Shamrock Shuffle.

Battle against the Snooze Button

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

When I was in college (I think) I was pretty good about getting up when my alarm went off and not loosing the battle against the snooze button. Since college, I’ve not been so strong. I really want to be able to have my alarm go off and I just get up out of bed but I far too often fall prey the the snooze button’s temptation of 8 more minutes of glorious sleep. Most of the time, it’s not just one snooze but 2, 3 or even more on the weekends. Currently, I set my cell phone alarms for 6:33a.m. and 6:45a.m. I press the snooze button after the first alarm and the second alarm finally gets me up. That’s a total of 3 rings.

All these snoozes can’t be that beneficial. The NY Times even has an article about the problem.

How do you get up in the morning? Have you found a way to defeat the dreaded snooze alarm?

Super Tuesday, Just Hours Away

Monday, February 4th, 2008

I’m really looking forward to Super Tuesday, I’m also a little nervous. I’m excited because ‘front runners’ for each party should be decided and nervous for my favorite candidate. ‘Who might that be?’, you might ask and I would say it’s ‘Barack Obama’. There are many reasons why I like Obama. One reason is Obama is a Mac and I like Macs :) .
